Exploring Upstream
16"x20" Oil Painting
Growing up in New Hampshire I spent a great number of summer days at the river with my family. They were days full of exploration, fun, and wonderment. As a kid I was always the first one in the water and the last one out. I was always curious about what was around the next bend. Now years later, I am experiencing that same wonderment through my Niece and Nephew. In this painting I used a brighter color palette to convey this child like wonderment. The depiction of the two figures in the river peering around the bend alludes to this feeling. The child stretching out her hand pointing to convey the feeling of exploration engaging the viewer to be curious of what's around the bend. "Exploring Upstream" Is based off a plein air ink painting as well as my own memories. It is a culmination of nostalgia of the past and the vibrancy of today. |
